I know people shit on Orion Pax being the Senator in Transformers IDW (2019), but boi, I actually like him a lot. He had that uncertainty and awkwardness to him, as he tried to do his best to save Cybertron from falling into chaos. And the fact that he sent Bumblebee to spy on Megatron and the Ascenticon (While saying sorry to Codexa for his next courses action) because he didn't trust his sketchy ass "friend" Megatron and his faction (He's so right about that) really made me giddy about him, like yay, baby girl is willing to do some sketchy shits to find the answers.

I do find it's quite funny to see he keep "accidentally" offending Megatron for seemingly saying the wrong things, but then again, when we saw Megatron's tie to the Rise, damn like, Orion Pax ironically was spitting facts into Megatron's face (Like girl, sit your fake-ass down, you don't get to be offended)

Man, fuck cancer.

I lost one of my players to it last week. I met Jacquie through our City of Heroes supergroup where she was Luna Red in 2008 and in 2010 we heard the CoH devs were doing a thing at PAX East in Boston. "Hey, I'm from Boston!" so myself, Jacquie and Stan met up at the Hub to see it. We met up for the next few PAX Easts, even after CoH died.

Stan was the one who ended up introducing Jacquie to Mike, at a Transformers convention of all things. They got married a few years later, and she eventually became a special education teacher focusing on music. Through her, Mike eventually decided to quit his job in sales and become a social worker.

When the Pandemic hit, I hadn't really talked much to Stan or Jacquie in a few years. We were still friends, just, y'know, busy. But we were all locked inside in April 2019 with nothing better to do, so fuck it, let's play D&D.

For nearly four years Jacquie, Mike, Stan, Katie, and Will met every week over Discord for more of my rambling story from level 3 to level 17 as they battled murder hornets, robot revolutionaries, an overlord of death (they were piloting a 10,000 year old colossus), the Jabberwock, conversed with a giant spider, talked the robot revolutionary to change sides, threw a concert alongside a shapeshifting bard-assassin warforged who always greeted Jacquie's bard with "HEY GIRLFRIEND! :D" and turned into a giant eagle to bypass my plans on at least three occasions.

During 2020-2021 we found out Jacquie had cancer. Lymphoma. They did a hard reboot on her immune system using hard radiation and stem cells that sounded like something out of science fiction. We thought she had it beat.

Last fall, it came back. Hard. She fought it with everything she had, and Mike - a kind and sensitive man who had fallen for this vivacious, warm-hearted woman - was with her the whole time.

We lost Jacquie on Friday. She was 39 years old. I'm still processing it.

There's plenty more I could say, but it's not important.

I miss my friend.

Ecocide in Gaza: The environmental impact of Israel's war

In-depth: Bombed fields, destroyed greenhouses, and soil contaminated with white phosphorus. In Gaza, the environment is a silent victim of Israel's war.

"The environment is not just collateral damage, but a target of the Israeli army," Lucia Rebolino, co-author of a study by Forensic Architecture, a collective that works with open-source satellite data, tells The New Arab. Israeli bulldozers have razed fields and orchards to clear a buffer zone more than 300 meters deep along the northern border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, she says. "The army builds dikes and mounds of earth to protect its tanks and clear the view." The figures in her study speak for themselves: of the 170 km2 of farmland that existed in Gaza before the war - half the territory - a total of 40% has been destroyed. Two thousand agricultural buildings have also been razed in Gaza – including 90% of all greenhouses in the northern districts. By targeting agricultural fields, Israel is attacking an important part of the Gazan economy and ecosystems. A joint study by the UN, the World Bank, and the European Union (EU) estimates the damage to agriculture at $629 million. Combined with the destruction of natural areas, waste treatment infrastructure, and debris removal, this amounts to over $1.5 billion - not even counting environmental restoration and reconstruction costs.

Israel's military infrastructure

According to Rebolino, this destruction is an integral part of an asserted Israeli strategy, particularly around the border buffer zone, over the last ten years. "We regularly observed Israeli planes dropping herbicides on border agricultural areas at the beginning and end of the harvest seasons from 2014 to 2019, taking advantage of favourable winds to hit the maximum surface area," she says. Forensic Architecture has published several reports on this "herbicidal war", which has forced many farmers to leave their land. Further south, investigators from the media group Bellingcat claim that around 1,740 hectares of land have been cleared where the Israeli army has built a new road, called Route 749. Also known as the ‘Netzarim Corridor’, this no-man's-land is being used to transport troops and to divide the north of the Gaza Strip from the south.

Significant water, air, and soil pollution

From the sky to the sea, from the earth to the groundwater, Gaza has been contaminated for many years, even generations, experts say. The greenhouse gas emissions generated during the first two months of the war in Gaza were greater than the annual carbon footprint of more than 20 of the world's most climate-vulnerable nations, according to a British-American study. It estimates that the climate cost of the first 60 days of Israel's war is equivalent to burning at least 150,000 tons of coal. The UN further stated that Israeli bombardments have created 37 million tons of debris. "That's more than the whole of Ukraine in two years," points out Wim Zwijnenburg, a researcher on the effects of conflict on the environment at PAX, a Dutch organisation that has documented, and denounced, how Israel’s war is making Gaza uninhabitable.

What Sunbow and Marvel Sentinel Prime were:

There's not much to say about Sunbow and Marvel's Sentinel Primes as they're mostly only present to be Optimus's predecessor but due to Hot Rod being intentionally similar to Luke Skywalker in Sunbow we can infer Optimus to be Obi Wan and Sentinel another jedi but he's given far too little characterization to be Yoda who more befits Alpha Trion in any case.

What Dreamwave Sentinel Prime was:

Flash forward to Sentinel's appearances in Dreamwave's Transformers comics and the ultimate guide in 2003-2004 with some more characterization and while still not much it's just enough along with these appearances postdating TPM to allow me to comfortably slot Dreamwave Sentinel as the Qui-Gon Jinn to Optimus' Obi Wan Kenobi and Rodimus' Luke Skywalker.

What TFA Sentinel Prime was:

In an about face the next Sentinel after Dreamwave was a douchebag who's authoritarian policies and xenophobia towards all organic living beings gave a bad name to an already somewhat more checkered than usual Autobot faction.

What Sentinel Zeta Prime was:

Aligned and High Moon's Sentinels are almost as similar to 1 another as Sunbow and Marvel's as like them they share a continuity family despite being from different continuities

Both are ultimately defined by being a well-intentioned but checkered predecessor/mentor/father to Orion Pax/Optimus before he fully became Optimus Prime.

What DOTM Sentinel Prime was:

Briefly teased in ROTF (2009) but not appearing until DOTM (2011) this is the Sentinel that decisively altered the character as the douchebag behavior of TFA was exaggerated to the point of making Sentinel a Pure Evil Villain as bad as The Fallen and worse than the Near Pure Evil Bayverse Megatron; a Youtube comment called Rassilon the Sentinel Prime of Doctor Who which is most feasibly referring to this Sentinel.

Played quite well by the late Leonard Nimoy Sentinel carried DOTM as a Love To Hate Pure Evil Villain netting it a personal score of 5.6/10.

What IDW 2019 Sentinel Prime was:

IDW 2019's Sentinel is both written by a novelist and appears more often than he did in his previous novel appearance, Exodus (2010) the result being a fully fleshed out version of Aligned and High Moon's Sentinels as a checkered but ultimately good mentor/father to Orion Pax/Optimus Prime.

What TF1 Sentinel was:

Despite TF1 and DOTM being set in different continuities TF1 Sentinel's in spirit much like Young Xehanort: the set up to a payoff played by Leonard Nimoy expect unlike Xehanort neither TF1 nor DOTM's Sentinels are tragic Magnificent Bastards but rather Love To Hate Pure Evil Villains.

TF1 Sentinel took all the best qualities of DOTM Sentinel, ran with them, and had them in a movie which was at worst boring netting TF1 a personal score of 5.8-6.8/10
